Post #21: A More Meaningful Pitch

Problem: People don’t feel that their work is meaningful. 

Solution: A trusted list of meaningful work to pick from.

The most common metric people use to pick their work is money. However, picking a job on the basis of money often doesn’t match a person with meaningful work.

Roughly 80% of workers don’t feel their job is meaningful.

And if that many people don’t feel the work they’re doing is meaningful, it could be because it isn’t. If anywhere near 80% of us are doing work that isn’t meaningful, our shared future won’t be as awesome as it could be if we better aligned ourselves with meaningful work.

To solve this problem, we need to…drumroll please…do meaningful work. In order to do that, we first have to be able to recognize what’s meaningful. Since money doesn’t always do a great job at signifying meaning, we need a new metric to rely on. 

Using the internet, web3, and AI, we can build a system that lets us collectively evaluate the available work, prioritizing the meaningful work over the less meaningful. Since the evaluation process will require a large and diverse group of people to effectively prioritize work, it’s important to start with a niche. 

The niche we can start with is “web3 work.” Since this evaluation system will eventually grow into a web3 project to take advantage of tools like digital tokens, trustless identity verification, and blockchains generally, existing web3 users will be the most likely early evaluators. And as it happens, web3 needs to prioritize its work as badly as any group, especially given recent failings.

I’m going to end my commitment to posting every Sunday. Now that there’s a clear enough pitch, I’m going to start talking with more people to get feedback and perhaps tinker with building.
